D4M Project 2: Something Big is Coming

So my entry idea for the group project is a Short Story Scavenger Hunt!!!
To put it into more details:

I vaguely got my inspiration from a couple of things.
This first inspiration was this short story that was in the newspaper a long time ago. It had won a contest of some sort I think. But what the newspaper did, instead of posting the whole story in one issue, was that they broke it down into chapters and each new issue would have the next chapter until the story was complete. It was a good way to get people to keep reading their papers because you wanted to know what happened next.
Another thing was those gum packets one of the students made here, I think, that were passed out at the market that had these weird stories on the back. The stories were really interesting and it was fun to collect the different packages to see what kind of story they had.
With this project I want to do something similar to that.

The Big Idea

The general idea is that there's going to be a story team that will of course write up the story.
And then the story will be broken up into sections and given a QR code.
And then each section's QR Code will be placed somewhere on campus.
The QR code will take the viewer to the webpage or blog page of that section.
Each page will have it's section of the story, an illustration to go with that section, and a hint on the bottom of the to the location of the next section. The final page will have a link to the main website/blog for the project where the entire story can be viewed as a whole along with all of the art that went into the project and the making-of video. The first location will be given in the advertising and then from there its a all-out scavenger hunt.

I sketched out the general idea for the format of the pages.
As always changes can be made if needed.

The Story Itself

The actual story can be discussed over the first meeting. I thought that it'd be nice if everyone worked together with the general idea of the story so everyone can be working on a story that they're happy to work on. It can be about anything, that's appropriate to the general audience, and if having too much freedom makes it hard to come up with ideas the story can have a Halloween theme to it since we'll be working through that season. Unless another theme is more appealing to the group. Since its a short story its should be limited to 8-15 pages with time in mind and for keeping the audience's attention.

Coming Soon Advertising
To get the word out about the project we can make COMING SOON posters and distribute them across campus a week or two before the QR Codes are distributed.
The poster will have a short explanation about the project and story as well as the start date and first location of the scavenger hunt.

This is a sketch of the general layout for the poster. Things can be changed later if needed.

Positions and Ranks
So I made a fun little chart to show the positions that I have in mind.

I think it's pretty self explanatory.
You can ask any questions about that if you want.
As for the main 3 roles.
I would personally like to be director, unless I become more interested on working on a different project.
I also nominate
Jinny Hinkle as Head of Art Direction
Renee Taylor as Head of Editorial.
If those nominated don't want their roles, the positions are open to change and if needed we can debate and vote on who can have what roles.

Here's what I have for the schedule.

Everything's open to a little bit of change but this is what it'll look like for the most part.

That's my idea.
Thank you for putting up with my giant wall of text. As a reward I give you this image of a dolphin that I found on the internet.

Have a nice day!

So as I was going through my files I found this little guy and realized that I've never posted him up here.
This was from last spring when Pottermore had just opened to everyone. I remember this because I cropped this out of a page of harry potter sketches. xD
So anyways this is Jack. Character that I designed last year. He was last seen here getting his head chopped off. He's a bit older than his usual age in this drawing but I really like how he looks in this.

Page 1

So after doing so sketches, color palettes, and characters designs we've come done to this.
The final product.
So for the finished piece I went with a short story comic. I've read many web comics and always found them to be inspiring. So I thought it'd be to give it a try.
At first I wasn't fully sure on what medium I wanted to make it in so I tried drawing it digitally and traditionally.

I went with the traditionally drawing because it looked nicer stylistically. Then I scanned it and colored in digitally.
Aaaaaand TA-DAAAH!

And this is only page one! I'll be trying my best to get the rest of the story up here page by page in the future.

Would You Like Some Color With Your Fries?

Whenever I get stuck with other homework I go back to the Fry model sheet and just add more to it.
I made a color palette for him after I finished my Design homework today.
It's just soooooo much fun I can't help it.

I should probably do the same for Flowers next since he's the leader of the other food gang in this storyboard. I'll have to think about that one.
But for now,
enjoy the fries.

Edible Gangs

For SB class our next storyboard has to be either a commercial, PSA, or an opening title for a TV show or movie. The requirements are that it has to be 30 seconds long and have a lot of camera movement.
Originally I was going to do an opening sequence for my Tough Cooking characters, but had trouble coming up with camera movement and scene ideas.

So now I'm working on a PSA about eating healthy instead. The story board is gong to be about two food gangs, healthy and junk food, and their battle over who is the best.
So far I have the characters designed and the story thumb-nailed.

As something extra, I started to make a model sheet for the leader of the Rubble Trouble Gang, Fry.
Because he's really fun to draw.

Right now I'm working on the animatic. I think I have two weeks to finish that, so that'll be up here a bit later.

1 Year Blogaversary!

A friend of mine had their first blogaversary not long ago.
It made me wonder when I made my very first post

It was a great thing I checked yesterday or I would've missed it. Whew.
Also, as a bonus, I've spread my art to other websites now including...

I send my thanks to all of you who come to look at my stuff.
Whether this is your first time to my blog or your 50th.
Thank you so much for stopping by.

Model Sheets!

3rd Design for Media post.
Right now a lot of things are more finalized.
Like the color palette.
I added a light brown color. Because my two main colors were really dark and when I think of hospitals I think of lighter colors so I added that.

And then I made model sheets of the finalized character designs.

Dr. Jazz

Rocker Nurse

Sad Patient No. 23

Height Comparison
Some setting sketches for the hospital.

And then for the final piece I had three ideas.
The first was a illustration of the characters helping sad patient and have it be formatted like the Guitar Hero game.

The second idea was a desktop background for laptops and such.

The third idea was a short story comic. I always liked the idea of making comics for fun. But for this I would only have the first page or two done for the class. And then I would finish the comic in my spare time.

What Happens When Your Amp Breaks

Some sketches I made in class for the musical doctor set.
I mostly wanted to sketch out the idea of "what if the amp was played too hard and busted".
Poor patient man.

Next Add Color

Part 2 of my Design 4 Media project.
And the focus is ...

At first I started with many color palettes from the inspiring artist of the last post.
I had a lot. At least 13. It was really crazy.
And then I narrowed it down to these 6.

I went and tested some of them out with the musical doctor characters next.

I really liked color palettes 1 & 4.
I felt that they worked best with the doctor characters.
I liked 1 for the sepia and warm colors. And 4 was compelling because the colors felt more "robotic".
So I fused the two palettes together.
And got this.

These two palettes came from Tessa Stone's pieces.

And for the second idea I really liked the 3rd palette.
Reds always makes me think of pizza places due to them being used in a lot of pizza logos like Pizza Hut and Domino's.

This palette came from one of Shaun Healey's pieces.

More and More Robots

I made some more sketches of the musical, robot doctor characters to get the designs more finalized.
Color will be posted tomorrow.

A Storyboard of ACTION!

We did our first storyboard in class. It's a action storyboard and the only requirement was that there needed to be an exchange between two characters.
I decided to go with my two tribal characters Amadi and Baako for this project.
You can see them on other posts around here.

We had to do two drafts of thumbnails.
The first one was just for drawing the general idea out.

The second one was more for adding interesting camera angles to add more to the story.

This is the final product.
